Brews & Stews

Black Magic Brew
This recipe is a Wick'a Dee original!  "Once, when I was only 20 years old, I had a wicked craving for something BLACK to eat or drink.  After sifting through some old rotten stuff in my icebox, I ran across 2 quarts of grape Kool-aid and a cup of OJ.  I thought the two flavors might be fruity-licious together, so I poured them over dry ice, and abracadabra!  The brew changed from purple and orange to BLACK!   Wick'a Dee's Black Magic Brew was born.  True tale!"
"I like to serve it straight from a freshly cut, rinsed and dried pumpkin for fun.  Sometimes I carve the pumpkin with a jagged edge, or put circles around the rim so the mist can drift out and down the sides.  It's SPOOKY!"

Note:  All the dry ice advisors recommend not putting the dry ice into the drink, but rather into an outer container of water surrounding the brew, "but don't you think it'd be a lot more fun to see the mist coming from your party guests ears?  (He-he-he)  Just kidding!  Be safe if you want.  Personally, I like the "fizz" the dry ice adds to the drink.  And the danger."

Black Magic Brew
1 cup sugar
2 quarts water
1 package grape flavored Kool-Aid soft drink mix
1 cup orange juice or orange Kool-Aid
1/4 lb. (or more) dry ice

Try adding some grape Koolaid to make it black.  Hehehe!

Candy Corn Brew

1 4-serving-size package lemon-flavor gelatin
1 cup boiling water
2 cups mango nectar
3 1/2 cups orange carbonated beverage, chilled
1 cup whipping cream
2 tbs. honey
candy corn for garnish (optional)

1. In a large bowl, combine gelatin and the boiling water, stirring until gelatin is dissolved.  Stir in the mango nectar.  Pour mixture into a tall, clear 2-quart pitcher. Cover and chill about 2 hours or until thickened but not set.  Gently pour* carbonated beverage over gelatin layer in the pitcher.

2. In a large bowl combine whipping cream and honey.  Beat with an electric mixer or large whisk just until stiff peaks form (tips stand straight). Spoon or pipe over carbonated beverage layer in the pitcher.  If desired, add candy corn.  Before serving, stir to mix layers (Oh, darn.  Now it's ugly.)

Serves 8 (8-oz. servings)

*To ensure that the carbonated beverage stays on top of the gelatin mixture, hold a wooden spoon above the gelatin layer and pour the carbonated beverage over the back of the wooden spoon.  That's an old witchy-trick!

Aunt Harry Mae's Halloween Stew

"Ahh...I've been looking for this. My special recipe for Halloween Stew. Let me see. Ahh yes, now I remember...start out by filling a large cauldron with swamp water and bring to a boil. (I love boils.) Then add the following ingredients:

1 cup eye of newt
12 mummified troll toes
2-1/2 cups mashed Zombies' brains
1 Jar essence of toad
2 Tablespoons of snake venom

Sounds delicious...would anyone like to try some?"
